Violin!

My newest acquisition for the room box:

Approximately actual size.  (She's actual size, but she seems much bigger to me...)  It came with a case and a bow too.  They're cute, but very chunky and off scale.  I'll just make a bow from scratch.  Hee, my little violin is very cute, and even smaller than I imagined it (though I carefully calculated the measurements etc. to make sure I got one that was suitable - there are so many so-called 1:12 scale musical instruments that really aren't the proper scale.  In fact, I've only found one cello that's just right, which will be a future purchase.)  Still, seeing it in person, it's so tiny!

I can't believe how much things are coming together now!  My stern locker is almost finished (is that what it's called, the thing under the window upon which Jack sleeps in esteven's favorite scene?  Or is the stern locker the things on the sides?  Anyway I won't be having any on the sides, just one under the window.) and things are progressing at an alarming rate, and what will I do when I'm finished???  I tremble to think of it.  Though I know it will actually be a long while before I'm finished.  I still have Stephen's furniture to make, and his elaborate dressing case.

ETA:  And because multiple people have mentioned that I need a double music stand, the answer is NO!  (Well, the answer isn't no because people have asked.  But I'm TELLING the answer because people asked.)  My local doll house store actually sells one very much like it, but I'm holding out for Stephen's elaborate dressing case from Diana, which could be a wash-hand-stand, a canteen, a writing desk, a lectern, a private time machine, and who knows what else - the gold-bound article - because they used it as a music stand.  And because I want to make it.  And it would be completely out of place below in Stephen's part of the roomboxes, so it must go in Jack's cabin.

Yes, those seats under the windows in the great cabin going from one side to the other are the stern lockers. :D You can see them clearly in the movie when Jack and Stephen have their talk after Warley's death.

For some reason I read that as "Wendy's death" and pictured Peter Pan. It's too early... *curls up on stern locker and falls back asleep*

And of course, Jack's stern locker is also his dress-up trunk!

Jack's stern locker is also his dress-up trunk!

So he has a cowboy outfit, and a doctor's outfit, and a lumberjack outfit...?

And lots of whaler outfits! They probably have theme days. "C'mon, gang! It's whaler day!" And he probably has the costumes for Neptune and whatever mystic personages they meet at the equator, and also uniforms for all other nationalities. Spare eye-patches are probably kept in there. And extra wigs for Stephen. Or for himself, for that matter. Maybe spare epaulettes if someone gets a promotion while at sea. Lots of useful costumes.

I had a dream that someone was playing the one in my regular dollhouse (which isn't as nice a violin, but still cute.) I was amazed they were able to play it, because the strings are just cotton thread.

Grace, I'll be scanning some stuff for you tonight and be sending you an email tomorrow. BIG SCANS!

Also, you need to make the double music stand that Jack and Stephen have. It's too bleeding adorable.

I'll second the Gilly's comment about that double music stand. But that violin is SO SWEET.

And. Start saving for the next RLUNOPOBL. We are planning to a have a week in England, in either Portsmouth or Chatham, and doing lots of looking at AoS stuff, watching the film on a large screen (if we can get a hotel with a conference room, it'd be perfect!) and general squeeing. Send yourself by airmail if necessary. But BE THERE - we missed you far too much this time!

I was telling esteven that the main problem is how little time I get for vacation - only 2 weeks per YEAR. :( Sigh.
