There was good lighting today, so I decided to take some daylight pictures of the cabin.  After all, its not always night time with music and candlelight.

Of course, Nemo had to investigate.

Eventually when I get around to it, I'm going to print out some maps and prints and pages of books, and letters and sheet music, etc.  But I'll wait and do it at work where we have a super high quality printer with fade-resistant colorfast ink and lignin-free archival paper.  Because I don't want my little maps and charts to change color.  I try to do everything archivally in my miniatures - use glue and plastics that won't yellow, use paints that won't discolor or fade, use archival paper, etc.  I'm a conservator, and it's ingrained in me now.  But fading/discoloring digital prints make me sad!

And for a sense of what the scale is (1:12, or 1 inch = 1 foot) here's a picture of the whole box sitting in the bathroom, where the nicest light was coming in through the window (for the lighting of all those photographs above).  Both sections of the box have Plexiglas panels, but I removed the top one for the photographs.  The bottom compartment is the sick bay, which isn't yet ready for its closeup.

Oh, man, that is so amazing...

If I had money, I would have a whole room dedicated to dollhouses and miniatures. I love little things.

This is so wonderful! And now, a newbie question: How did you get the walls so detailed? Can those be bought or what?

Thank you!

I made the walls from scratch, pretty much. Well, I bought little strips of molding, but I made all the panels myself. I had to, since I needed them to fit such a specific weird shape of wall. For normal walls, though, you can buy panels. In most online shops they have a section of building materials including molding, doors, shingles, etc., and paneling is often in there.

Here (http://grace-poppy.livejournal.com/231311.html) is where I wrote about making the panels, though I don't have pictures of cutting all those fiddly little bits of molding.

Is it for your House house? :D

Yep. :D I'm nowhere near building walls yet (or a floor) but I like to gather the information in bits and pieces and let it percolate in my head.

Hmm, I should post a few more pics on that.

Ah yes, I know how that works. Percolating is good.

They are absolutely amazing! I've tried to find those things but when I want to buy them they weren't there. I'd also like that kind of thing in real life one day. Well done!

The desk in the first picture. I prefer buying it off the few stores or markets around my area. I also have trouble describing it so I can't find it on the Internet. I'm new to this hobby but I'm hoping to get more serious now that I have more money behind me.

Ah, that is the House of Miniatures "Chippendale desk on frame" kit. I got it on ebay. I don't have any dollhouse stores near me, alas, so I have to get nearly everything on the internet (apart from stuff I make from scratch.)

They are just SO adorable. *sniff* *wants to hug them*

I've watched HMS Defiant. It be a mix of Bounty and Potemkin, but it also has a very hot super-sadist bad guy. (Soooooo soooo familiar.) Who also played Aschenbach later. There are no coincidences. And it has Captain Obi-Wan. *wuw*

Oh I haven't seen HMS Defiant. I'll have to seek it out.

Watch it, it has a pretty midshipman, and the villain is a wannabe-Claggart-but-fails-but-still-pretty-evil.

Oh, it's aka Damn The Defiant, which I do have in my Netflix queue! I thought you meant it had Ewan McGregor when you said it had Obi-Wan, and I thought it must be some new movie I hadn't heard of. I was all confused. I do really like Alec Guinness though, so I'll probably enjoy it.

It's nice to see the scale of it. :D

Is that a little watch on the desk? Kind of looks like Harrison's H4. :D

Thanks! Yes, I suppose it does look kind of like H4 - maybe Jack stole it! But actually, that isn't really Jack's watch. Jack has a nicer watch, but I couldn't find it when I was taking the photograph. Jack's watch is a little smaller.

Thank you!

I really just took the bathroom picture because I was already set up in the bathroom for my photographs. I was just using the nice filtered lighting that was coming through the window. But someone else had said she wanted to see what the whole box looked like, and now she can.
