plate rack and cupboards

I was commissioned to make this plate rack and pair of cupboards by the talented Michelle who is making a whole Hogwarts dollhouse.  It was fun to work out the logistics and design with her.  For the first time, I photoshopped my design together for her approval, and then I built it according to those measurements.  It was fun!  My finished product turned out just like my photoshopped image.  I had done something similar with my ambulance volante, but to a much lesser extent.  The computer is such a valuable tool though.  Nearly every item I make gets its own folder, including various reference sources and photos of the thing itself.  The ambulance volante folder has about 137 files, but this cabinet has only 45.

I wish I could see it installed, and see the rest of her amazing dollhouse too.  This will of course go in the kitchen, above a similarly styled kitchen sink with wooden cabinets.

It's a wonderful plate rack and I am SO thrilled with it, as it is exactly what I wanted and was looking for. I know it will look perfect in its new home.

That is really excellent craftsmanship (I'm in awe!) and looks stunning with the little crockery on. Is that your own stuff? Too adorable!

Yes, those are my own dishes and things, but I did not make them! The beautiful dishes with blue and gold edging are by Stokesay Ware (amazing!!!), and the silver coffee pot is by Warwick Miniatures. The others are things I picked up in various places.

Ahhh.. the money I could spend on minis. I adore them and would, if I had the cash, love to fill a dollhouse with the finest! I'm poor though, and I love making things, so that's what I do. When a dollhouse is for kids to play with, as my project is, you can get away with some slap-dashery too.. :-P

I love the style and beauty of ornamental houses though. This is great. Good job!

I know just what you mean, being rather penniless myself. But necessity is the mother of invention, and so I'm constantly making things (and selling) instead of buying all the furnishings I want.

And yes, it's rather freeing to make things for kids!
