Tonight I made bottles out of beads.  Like a madwoman.  Like a banshee.  Because you know how those banshees love to make bottles.

And a magnifying glass.  They're not finished.  I need to add the lens, and I need to distress them all, with spilled medicine and little labels and grime and age.

I'm a tired madwoman.

I'll buy some bottles too, but these will be the general background props.  Kind of cute?

They look really cute! I like the batch of white ones to the left the most.
BTW, I *just* watched Master and Commander a couple days ago XD

They´re very good trompe-l´oeils! Ever thought of working as a scale-prop maker for TV or movies?

I'd like that! I've worked on life-sized props on stage (as well as acting). And I used to think about making museum maquettes and dioramas etc. Watching the M&C bonus features last weekend made me want to make movie props too, yes.

Cute indeed. I'm sure you will include some laudanum bottles as well. Just don't swig too much, leave some for Stephen. *g*

Does the word, 'obsession' ring any bells? *g* But then, it is all in a good and noble cause. Our surgeon does need a well kitted out dispensary and sick berth to be effective.

Obsession? What makes you say that??? :D

I decided that the purple tiny bottle to the far left must be Stephen's personal laudanum bottle.

Very impressed. I shall be wanting loads of bottles and jars for potions and foodstuffs, so there's a bit of inspiration there, thanks.

Thanks! They were really fun to make. Must say though, the beads were surprisingly expensive - but not nearly as expensive as buying that many real dollhouse sized bottles.

Really impressive. I'm in pretty much the same boat (teehee... ahem... sorry) as I'm having to find ways to make everything from scratch for my current project...

As it's my first, I thought I'd give one of those really cheap, flatpacked houses from ebay a go... Now, because I'm a cheapskate I'm having to make a lot of stuff from scratch. Those bottles are a wonderful inspiration. Thanks!

Thanks! Yeah, dollhouse stuff is expensive, especially when you're starting from scratch. It's not so bad when you're just buying one or two things, but when you're buying EVERYTHING - yikes! But making it is fun. :D

Great job! I spent so much time making "pretty perfume bottles" that it never dawned on me that one could, indeed, make medicine bottles and such from beads! *Dawn breaks over marble skull.*
Seems your project is moving along nicely!

Thanks! Yeah, I've made a few pretty bottles in my time, but my house lady can only use so many bottles of perfume and bath salts and lotions. It was fun with these to make lots of them. I think I could quickly become addicted! But it was hard, actually, to make these NOT look like pretty perfume bottles. It's hard to find beads that aren't shiny or sparkly or faceted or irridescent or embedded with foil or bright colors, etc.

These are so totally awesome. Now I want to make some for my house. :D

I never did answer your question about what kind it is, did I? It's a farm house, on the outside, but a regency/victorian on the in. :-/ Not real accurate.

Hee, well my house is a Victorian house with a 1930s family living in it. But why not? At least it's not the other way around. And I find that the later you make your occupants, the wider variety of historic styles you can incorporate. After all, I have furniture that's 100+ years old, so there's no reason why my mini people can't do the same.

Okay, so you're a madwoman, but a very creative and talented one! The bottles are adorable, and I can't wait to see them finished, with the labels and everything. Did you make the magnifying glass, or did you find it somewhere?

These look fabulous. You're so creative! I love the tiniest ones in the center (the white ones and amber ones).

As someone who 1) finds antique bottles really interesting (I had to research 'em for a story) and 2) has more beads in her house than she could ever use, I'm boggled that this idea never occurred to me.

Your magnifying glass--does it incorporate a toggle, or am I much mistaken?

Yes it does incorporate a toggle! Well spotted. :D Do you make miniatures? If not, you should, what with all your beads and bottles! (Haha, that sounds like a funny kind of bead-shop-cum-pub, The Bead and Bottle. But maybe that's because it reminds me of my imaginary baby pub, The Bottle and Blanket.)

Most definitely cute. I like the way the hole down the middle of the oblong ones makes them look extra authentic, like the bottle was made of really thick glass.

Thanks! I'm glad you like the hole down the middle. Of course, I didn't plan it that way on purpose (since they're beads and have holes anyway), but I'm glad it works. :D

I love the pink ones on the right. They look so fancy and pretty, almost like perfume bottles. And the clearish ones on the left are so convincing, like you could actually pour something right out of it!!

Nooooo, I don't want "pretty" and pink for my naval surgeon! *smashes the bottles* :D

Actually they're more an amber color, closer to how they look in the first picture without flash. But hmm, I'll get them all grimy, and we'll see how pretty they look THEN!

Thanks!

I didn't invent the idea of beads for bottles, but usually they're used to make fancy pretty perfume bottles and the like. It's a lot harder to try to make boring ugly bottles!
