Jack (and Stephen) have chairs!  Now they can sit and play their instruments, when their instruments arrive.  (Actually, I had a dream about someone playing a mini violin I made for my big doll house... I was amazed they were able to get such beautiful music out of it, when I'd only used cotton thread for the strings.)

And the stern windows are varnished and glossy.  Probably not as glossy as they look in the pictures, actually, in case you're alarmed by the shine.

And I have hands!  One to hold the camera, and one to hold mini things.

Bigger pictures below...

Chairs for the great cabin.

Oh, on a somewhat related note, I was looking at screencaps of Jack's cabin (I have many many many) I was thrilled to discover that Jack's black leather dining chairs are actually folding chairs!  I don't know why it made me so ridiculously pleased.  There was a scene where guys were walking by carrying them, and I had been thinking, "What ARE those things they're carrying?" and then I realized they were the same chairs I was so used to seeing!

Not these chairs though.  Nor their equivalent in the movie, nor Jack's desk chair (which is from the same set.)  Because there's a scene of a guy carrying it, and it's not folded, and I assume he WOULD have folded it if he could.  Oh, props, how I love them...  I know them so well by now.

Oh, and those are another House of Miniatures kit, this time the "Lyre back chair circa 1800."  I gave them black fabric cushions instead of the blue fabric they came with.  These are MANLY delicate chairs.  The movie chairs aren't lyreback, but they're of the same Manly Delicate oeuvre (and they simply do not exist in the doll house world.)

Nothing is glued in place yet in Jack's cabin.  Just a dry run.  I like the gratification of seeing things in place - windows, floor, etc.

Yes, another heroic shot of the windows.

And another with the heroine's hand for scale.  I keep forgetting that people aren't used to the automatic assumption of 1:12 scale.

Thanks! Yes, I find that manly delicacy is a good descriptor for most of the stuff involved with Jack's cabin. Kind of a severe elegance.

OH MY GOD! GIANT ROOM-SIZED HANDS! *flees*

Oh, no, they're miniatures. My bad.

These are great! How long has this taken you?

I dunno. I made the chairs in an evening... the windows have taken longer, but I've been working on them on and off. Why, haven't you been paying attention?

Thanks! :D

I have too been paying attention! *indignant* I was wondering if you know how many manhours (womanhours? personhours?) have gone into it....

Now I will imagine you with GIANT ROOM-SIZED HANDS forever.

Haha, it's easy to fool people into thinking I'm making miniatures when I use my giant room-sized hand! If only I could find a way to make money with that trick...

I ordered Jack's violin! And a little chess table. Not because they need to play chess, but because it was just the perfect table to put maps on and stuff, and it happened to be inlaid with a chessboard. TABLE EXCITING YAY.

Oh, and manhours and money I don't keep track of for this project. That would be sad. Like counting the hours I have to take care of my cats.

Thanks! I know, I wouldn't mind having them either! Actually, I'd really like that black and white floor. And slanting windows!!

These all look fantastic! I love the black-and-white flooring- is it actually painted canvas, or did you use something else?

Thanks! It's painted cloth - just thin cotton muslin because I knew canvas would be thick and nubby and look off-scale. It's a bit imperfect, but maybe I can blame it on lousy seamen who are more used to wielding a tar brush. :D

That's a much better shot of the windows. They look very realistic now we can see all the woodwork.

Thanks! And since they're more varnished, the light reflects all the little details better. Hooray!
