Some miniatures.

Bigger pictures below...

I decided to re-cover the seat cushions in leather.  One of my book conservator colleagues gave me some leather she had pared too thin - paper thin.  Too thin for her, but perfect for me!

And randomly - some aardvarks.

Aren't they sweet?

They live on top of my monitor at the moment.  I intended to put them on the Christmas tree, but that hasn't happened yet.

And here's the evolution of Jack's stern locker.

A piece of wood, painted and stained, with some matboard scraps glued on for the center thingy.

Add some wooden molding and some panels cut from card stock.

Finished.

Optional leather cushions.

It looks magnificent with the windows and the checkered floor, and Jack's desk and little table.  But you can't see all that yet!

Thank you! Yes, I have recovered for the most part! I actually made the stern locker a while ago and just never got around to posting photos. It would be a rare burst of energy to get all of those things accomplished in one night. All I did last night was cover the chair cushions. :D

Your model is going to look absolutely wonderful! And I know aardarks are your first love in the vast menagerie of Stephen's, but any thoughts of making a wombat chewing on a hat?

Hmm, I hadn't thought of that! It would be cute. The aardvarks aren't going to be part of the scene, though.

Cute aardvarks! :D Could they not fit into Stephen's cabin as well? They look about the right size... *seconds [livejournal.com profile] artyartie's suggestion of a hattivore wombat*

The second to last photo really shows off the locker in all its glory. I love seeing how you roomboxes have evolved. I can't wait to see them finished!

Thank you! Oh, and the locker looks even more glorious with the windows and the floor cloth! But you'll see that later.

But a ship roombox is no place for a troop of aardvarks! And certainly not a dispensary, a sick bay, or the great cabin. No, they shall stay on land.

*claps*

That was really clever, the way you built up the locker from a plain piece of wood! Love the cardstock mouldings: never in a million years would I have thought of that!

And aardvarks are always WIN. :-)

Thanks! I was very proud of my card stock idea. So much easier than messing with lots of mitered corners of molding to make rectangular embellished panels.

It all looks marvelous. Especially the panels/molding and leather on the stern locker. Very precise, very classy.

Paper-thin leather...wow, that must be something to work with.

Thank you!

The paper-thin leather was nice to work with on this tiny scale. It would have been a nightmare for anything much bigger, though. Even the stern locker cushions would have been too big, I think. I used different leather for them.

That looks lovely. I can tell the finished article will be out of this world!

I really should clear some space so I have room to start being crafty and get on with ideas I've got...

Yes you should. YOU SHOULD! Then we could be doing things at the same time and comparing notes and such! Or saying "Oooh, I found this great website that supplies all sorts of XYZ stuff!"
