I got a book today - Naval Surgeon: The Voyages of Dr. Edward H. Cree, Royal Navy, as Related in His Private Journals, 1837-1856.  It's full of his own journal entries and watercolors.  It was dirt cheap on amazon.

Oh, [profile] cionaudha, I also got Regeneration.  But I won't start until I'm done with Adm. Byrd.  ARGH and I haven't finished Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Death yet either!

And in other book news, I'm really fond of my Moby Dick popup book.  Sounds silly, I know, but the popups are amazing!  So I've prepared a picspam.  I'm too tired to type about it, but a picture is worth a thousand words.

Also, I made little gold capped crystal bottles to go in Stephen's dressing case.

My favorite part - you can look through the telescope...

And now for something completely different:  bottles.

Those popups are amazing, as are your little treasures. I bet you go around looking at small items thinking how to utilize them best.

Thanks! Yes, I totally do. :D I did when I was little as well, always loving when things from the big world looked like something tiny for my dollhouse.

Yes it is! There are actually several such elaborate books out there now. Last year I got my nieces an amazing Cinderella (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/1416905014/sr=8-1/qid=1202518645/ref=dp_otherviews_0/002-9828891-1630451?ie=UTF8&s=books&img=0&qid=1202518645&sr=8-1) book with a big carriage that pops up with horses, and amazing dancing people in the ballrooms.

Wow! That one is very nice as well! Nothing like the pop-up books I had as a child.

Wow, that's an amazing popup! :D
And I like your tiny little bottles, they look a bit like the ones my mum used to keep sweets in.

Thank you! I like the way they turned out too, so fancy. They're a love present for Stephen, even though he'll probably just put little bones or beetles in them instead of the usual vanity items.

I just got another Stereophonics CD, the Sex, Language, whatever it's called, Other. I like it but I haven't gotten used to it enough to have a favorite, or to even really remember any of the songs except the first one. I keep on singing in a high voice, "Superman in an aeroplane!"

Aww, but he loves his little beetles and bones, doesn't he? It would just show that he cherishes your present. ;)

I can never remember the right order of that title, I just call it LSVO, it's easier to remember. XD
I'd say that's my second favourite album, but I couldn't pick a favourite either... maybe `Pedalpusher´, just because the "Puuuuushhh!" amuses me.

VIOLENCE, that was the other word. :D

And which album has "Have a nice day"? How many albums do they have anyway?

I don't even know the names of the songs because I've been listening to it in the car exclusively, and didn't look at the list of titles as I was driving.

`Have A Nice Day´ is on Just Enough Education To Perform (JEEP).
They have 6 albums out now:
- Word Gets Around
- Performance & Cocktails
- Just Enough Education To Perform
- You Gotta Go There To Come Back
- Language. Sex. Violence. Other?
- Pull The Pin

I was pretty disappointed by the last album though. But, you know, other people like it...

Actually, I saw that book a few weeks ago and was blown away-I'm glad I'm not the only one. && the wee bottles are just making my day. Miniatures are amazing.

The Cree book is wonderful. I use a ship from one of his paintings as the wallpaper on my phone.

Oh good! I haven't started reading it yet, just glanced through it (in a very tired state yesterday). I was wondering if you knew it - and wondering if you were probably the one who recommended it in the first place. I randomly found it in my amazon shopping cart where I had saved it ages ago, and didn't even remember it, but it was so cheap that I just decided to go ahead and get it.

I'm glad to see you around!

Ah, me too, but I've been saying plenty of nothing anyway. ;D

OH! I was reading in 'The Letter of Marque' how the medicine chest was built into the ship, and I didn't understand what that meant - would it be like a built-in cabinet or closet?

"The Surprise had begun life as the French Unite', and her medicine-chest, which was built into her, had its massive door hung on pintles in the French manner and an exceedingly powerful man could lift it straight off its hinges."

Cool book. I briefly toyed with the idea of trying something with pop-ups when I was trying to figure out what to do with my shadow boxes, but then got distracted by rolling marbles instead...

Love those crystal bottles.

Yes, it is a cool book! Popups are so fascinating to me. I can understand the concepts of making 3-dimensional things from flat pieces of paper, but making them MOVE and fold flat again in one smooth motion would be the really hard part, I think.

Thanks!
